Makeup Dupes and The Influencers Set To Find Them

The word “dupe” comes from the word “duplicate” &  it is exactly that. A duplicate of another item. If you haven’t roamed Youtube or Instagram lately you probably haven’t heard of a makeup dupe.  A makeup dupe is a close copy of an expensive cosmetic item but either from the drugstore or a much lower priced brand. There are tons of sites out there that recommend the closet dupe or cheapest copy. Keep reading to meet the these 2 content creators who bases most of their work around finding cheaper alternatives for… YOU!

Katy Love

An awesome content creator is Katy Love who even calls herself a “Dupe detective” and is known on Instagram as @allintheblush. She has over 125 thousand followers and a website dedicated to dupes.

How she started…

“My passion came about when I myself began searching for dupes for a very popular lipstick that was sold out everywhere. I quickly became obsessed with finding every similar color of this lipstick that I could, and shortly thereafter I began incorporating my findings into my beauty blog. My dupes became popular almost immediately and so my content began to revolve around what types of products my audience wanted dupes for. From that moment on, I've enjoyed every moment of being able to connect with people on a daily basis, helping them find either cheaper or available alternatives to products that they aren't able to buy.”

Katy has created an amazing “Dupe Directory” on her site.

“Creating my Dupe Directory on allintheblush.com has been the greatest addition to my page. My Dupe Directory is essentially a home base for all of the dupe posts that I've shared on my Instagram. With the ever increasing number of dupes that I post to my Instagram page, I knew I had to organize them in a way that made it easy to find. Within the Dupe Directory, each brand has their own landing page of all of the dupes that I've found, sorted first by product type and then in alphabetical order by shade name. Furthermore, once a dupe photo from the brand landing page is clicked on, the user is directed to the full post, which includes all of the swatches that I've ever found myself or online, as well as links on where you can purchase each dupe.”

Miranda Mendelson:

Miranda Mendelson aka @slashedbeauty is another amazing YouTuber and content creator. She has an award-winning blog, YouTube channel, and Instagram account based around drugstore finds.

Miranda explains why she enjoys creating “Dupe” content:

“I've always been frugal, but makeup is a passion of mine and I don't want to sacrifice quality for a reasonable price. I love finding drugstore products that work just as well as high end.”

If you ask her the best makeup dupe she has ever found is….

“NYX has an HD Foundation and Concealer that is a close dupe for the Make Up For Ever HD line. The Make Up For Ever products are my top picks for special occasion makeup when you need to look picture perfect (ie. wedding makeup), so to see that there's an alternative that's a fraction of the price is extremely exciting, especially for everyday wear.”
