Even Your Clothes Need a Consultant : The Life of a Wardrobe Stylist
Meet Vanessa Dipietro a wardrobe stylist from New York. She helps people edit, organize and style their wardrobe to look and feel confident every time they walk out the door.
“I am Basically like a consultant for your clothes! I help people pick out what works best for their bodies and style. ”
A typical day in the life of a wardrobe stylist is mainly working with private clients.
“ My typical day revolves around the client and their needs. Sometimes it could be a seasonal situation where I help them coordinate looks for the season or it could be a one off event or even a trip. ”
Vanessa comes from a fashion background previously working at the popular brand “Victoria’s Secret”.
“I worked in Product Development for knits and dresses. I basically worked closely with design and production to help bring new styles to market.”
For Vanessa working in fashion was always fun and exciting :
“I got to do some travel to explore other markets and retail which is always a huge plus in this industry. Things were always fast paced and could change at any moment. Just when you thought you nailed a whole collection, the executives could change the whole concept and you’d have to start all over. It was never a boring job. Always kept me on my toes and filled me with excitement”
Since Vanessa has been in the fashion industry for a while she has seen the rise of Instagram and influencer culture. She believes Instagram is a huge media outlet that is always evolving.
“It’s providing bloggers and influencers a platform to really make a difference in people’s lives not only through fashion but through travel and food, technology, etc. It’s what most people turn to when they need a point of reference for something. It allows people who are truly passionate about what they do to provide a visual portfolio of inspiration. That is mainly why I started my own IG page. It was meant to be a way for my clients to see my stylistic approach.”
